Father Meyer was one of the founding members of St. Emily Parish.  Before he became a priest, Jerry and his wife, Cathy, raised 10 children who all attended St. Emily school.  Both Jerry and Cathy were very involved in the parish.  Jerry was a lector and a member of the Men’s club.  Cathy was a member of the Woman’s club.  Together, Jerry and Cathy headed up the Pro Life ministry at St. Emily.

In 1988, Jerry’s wife, Cathy died, but Jerry remained involved at St. Emily until he had a second calling.  Jerry gave up his dental practice to his sons and was accepted to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia to become a priest.  Fr. Meyer was ordained in the Diocese of Peoria in 1996.  His first mass was celebrated at St. Emily on Pentecost Sunday in 1996 surrounded by family and St. Emily friends. His first assignment was in Ottawa, IL at St. Francis of Assisi where he was pastor.  He remained there until 2009 when he retired and moved back to Mt. Prospect.  He was welcomed by his home parish, St. Emily, and continues to say mass and hear confessions on a regular basis.  He also helps in surrounding parishes.  He currently serves as chaplain for Heather House at Maryville and is also chaplain for the Mt. Prospect Knights of Columbus.  Since moving back to the area, he also enjoys time with his children and 23 grandchildren.
