Mrs. Mary Caldrone

Biography

Mary Caldrone joined the St. Emily staff in November 2017 after serving at St. Zachary in Des Plaines for the past 23 years. However, she is no stranger to St. Emily Parish, having been a substitute for weekend masses, funerals and weddings for a number of years. She and her husband, Bob, grew up in and still live in Mt. Prospect and are the proud parents of four children. Mary brings great energy and enthusiasm to the music ministry at St. Emily and has exciting plans. She welcomes all who wish to be part of this important liturgical ministry.

Biography

Little did Gail know thirty years ago when she first stepped foot in St. Emily Church, how her life would be blessed beyond measure. With a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from Loyola and a Certificate of Studies in Lay Ecclesial Ministry from the University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein, Gail serves our parish as a Pastoral Associate.

She has worn a number of hats (as all our staff has done!) and currently ministers to those who are grieving. She is the on-call voice of our emergency phone line, seeking to reassure those in crisis.

As a Field Delegate for the Metropolitan Tribunal, Gail assists individuals seeking an annulment. She volunteers for Prisoner Visitation and Support, an organization authorized to visit the incarcerated at federal and military prisons. Gail also writes regularly for Living Faith Devotions and Living Faith Kids.

Mrs. Melissa Hajdu

Biography

Melissa Hajdu is a pastoral minister here at St. Emily. She is the Baptismal minister, and the staff liaison for some of the ministries of the parish including Mundelein Seminary Teaching Parish program, Christ Renews His Parish, HUGS, Parish Hospitality Sundays, Parish Liturgy Committee and Intercessory prayer group. Melissa has been a member of the parish for over 20 years and has assisted on the RCIA team since then. She is also a physical therapist, mother of 2 two daughters and grandmother of Cooper and Carter. Her husband served as a deacon here at the Parish.  She organizes our Divine Mercy Sunday and has done study groups at the parish  which usually focus on a particular way of praying, spirituality or a particular devotion. She has various other duties “behind the scenes” at the parish.

Melissa is always looking to help start new ministries here at the parish or bring some enrichment of our spiritual life – ideas welcome!

 

Mrs. Sue Hogan

Biography

Sue and her family have been members of St. Emily since 1990. In the early years, Sue, Bill and her boys, Patrick and Andrew, were well known in the school and parish, being involved not only at school activities (boys are St. Emily alumni), running fundraisers, Scouts (both boys are Eagle Scouts) and volunteering when needed. Sue is very proud of her family. Her boys are Notre Dame College Prep alumni. Patrick graduated from Valparaiso University, IN with a degree in Meteorology, Andrew graduated from Miami University, OH with a degree in Zoology & Environmental Sciences.

Sue began working part time at the school in the Extended Care program and worked her way up to school secretary. When the job for parish secretary became available, Sue decided it was time for a change, a job which offered new challenges and a flexible schedule.

Sue has taken on the role of Protecting God’s Children site administrator, bulletin editor plus many others. She enjoys helping parishioners with all their needs. If she doesn’t know, she will try to find someone who does. Sue looks forward to assisting you with any of your parish needs.

 

Sr. Danielle Jacob

Biography

Sister Danielle is a member of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, an international congregation of women religious, dedicated to the renewal of family and the sacredness of human life. For 22 years, Sr. Danielle served in the education ministry, first as a teacher and then, school principal. Her experiences and skills led her into leadership within her congregation where she served for nine years.

Having completed a Certificate of Studies in Lay Ecclesial Ministry from the University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein, Sr. Danielle currently ministers as a Pastoral Associate, working at St. Emily Parish in adult faith formation. In this role, she seeks to find ways to bring educational and spiritual experiences that both affirm and stretch the people of St. Emily. Sister also manages the parish website and Facebook page and is active in the music ministry.

Outside of her official role at St. Emily Parish, Sister works within her own congregation assisting the sisters with technology issues and also serves as a board member for the congregational corporation that oversees the Sisters’ sponsored ministries. When time allows, she works for other religious congregations in a support role for their major meetings and is occasionally called upon as a motivational speaker by various organizations.

Rev. Henry (Hank) Lyon

Biography

Rev. Hank Lyon was assigned to St. Emily Parish in July 2020 following his ordination for the Archdiocese of Chicago in June of that same year. Father Hank received a BS in Philosophy from Loyola University and an M.Div. and STB from the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.

Rev. Gerald Meyer

Biography

Father Meyer was one of the founding members of St. Emily Parish.  Before he became a priest, Jerry and his wife, Cathy, raised 10 children who all attended St. Emily school.  Both Jerry and Cathy were very involved in the parish.  Jerry was a lector and a member of the Men’s club.  Cathy was a member of the Woman’s club.  Together, Jerry and Cathy headed up the Pro Life ministry at St. Emily.

In 1988, Jerry’s wife, Cathy died, but Jerry remained involved at St. Emily until he had a second calling.  Jerry gave up his dental practice to his sons and was accepted to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia to become a priest.  Fr. Meyer was ordained in the Diocese of Peoria in 1996.  His first mass was celebrated at St. Emily on Pentecost Sunday in 1996 surrounded by family and St. Emily friends. His first assignment was in Ottawa, IL at St. Francis of Assisi where he was pastor.  He remained there until 2009 when he retired and moved back to Mt. Prospect.  He was welcomed by his home parish, St. Emily, and will occasionally concelebrate mass for a special observance.  Since moving back to the area, he also enjoys spending time with his children and 23 grandchildren.

Mr. David Mika

Biography

David and his family have been parishioners at St. Emily since the summer of 2003, when they moved here from St. Pascal Parish in Chicago. He has been a part of our parish Religious Education program since 2004, first as a catechist and then as a program assistant. He is currently the Co-Coordinator of the RE program and Youth Minister, as well as the editor of the parish bulletin.

David has completed the Lay Leadership and Coordinator of Religious Education programs at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein.

When David does find time to take a few days off from his ministry at St. Emily, he enjoys long road trips and car camping.

Mr. Rick Morrison

Biography
Rick has been employed at St Emily since November of 2017 and assumed the role of Maintenance Director in July 2020. Prior to working at St. Emily, Rick was an irrigation technician and foreman of Highland Woods Golf Course in Hoffman Estates. 
 
Rick grew up in Glenview, IL and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Parish in Wilmette. He currently lives in River Grove with his lovely wife, Nelly, and Leilani, who he is proud to call his daughter. 

Rev. James Presta

Biography

Rev. James Presta, STD, ordained in 1986 for the Archdiocese of Chicago, received a BS in Psychology and Theology from Loyola University; and a M.Div. and STL from the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.  In 2005, he earned a doctoral degree, STD, at the International Marian Research Institute, Dayton, Ohio, which is affiliated with the Pontifical University Marianum in Rome. In 2016 Fr. Presta was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree, Honoris Causa, from his alma mater, Mundelein Seminary for his twenty years of service in seminary work.

From 1986 to 1993, Fr. Presta served as associate pastor at St. Christopher Parish in Midlothian. From 1993-1996, he served as associate pastor at Queen of Martyrs Parish in Evergreen. In 1996, Cardinal Bernardin appointed Fr. Presta as Rector/President of St. Joseph College Seminary in Chicago where he served for fourteen years. In 2010, Cardinal George appointed Fr. Presta as the Vice Rector for Administration at Mundelein Seminary, serving as Director of Admissions and Assistant Professor in the Department of Dogmatic Theology. In 2016, Cardinal Cupich appointed Fr. Presta as the sixth pastor of St. Emily Parish in Mt. Prospect.

Fr. Presta continues to teach a one day course in Mariology to the students enrolled in the Institutes of Lay Ministry and Diaconal Studies at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. He is an adjunct faculty member of Mundelein Seminary and a supervisor in the Tolton Teaching Parish Program for seminarians assigned to St. Emily Parish. He enjoys traveling, watching movies and is fluent in Italian and Spanish.

Rev. John Roller

Biography

Father John Roller was born in 1934, and he has been a priest for 61 years. From 1989 to 2004 he was a pastor  at St. Thomas Becket Parish. Prior to that he was an associate pastor in six parishes. In 2006 Father came to live and help here and St. Emily’s.

Father Roller was raised in Oak Park and was educated in St. Catherine of Siena school, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake seminary in Mundelein. After ordination he attended Loyola University for two years to hone counseling skills.

Father Roller loves people, music and prestidigitation (magic), and he hates Lima beans; he insists they should be called by their proper name: Bingo Markers.

Biography

Lori and her husband Dave joined the parish in 1992 and their 3 children, Scott, Kristen and Jeanna graduated from St. Emily School. Scott and his family live in Poland. Kristen, her husband, and 3 children are St. Emily parishioners and her 2 sons attend school here. Jeanna lives in Switzerland with her husband and children. Lori has 9 grandchildren and tries to get to Europe as often as she can to see the family there.

Before working part time for DLT Sales Inc as the office manager and volunteering weekly at Catholic Charities, she volunteered on many committees at the school, was past president of School Board and Parish Council, served on FSA board and is on the committee for the Tolton Teaching Program.

She is extremely proud of her husband Dave who was ordained a Deacon in May of 2021 and looks forward to help in bringing Holy Communion to the sick, elderly and home bound.
